TORCHLIGHT PROCESSION ROUTE AND ROAD CLOSURES

In 2018, the Torchlight Procession will again follow the route down the Royal Mile and into Holyrood Park.  Participants will form up in three areas: the High Street (from Bank Street) which will close at 10.00am on 30 December, North Bridge (Balmoral Hotel to Royal Mile) and South Bridge (Royal Mile to Chambers Street) which will close at 4.00pm on 30 December.  Further restrictions will come into effect progressively along the route and side streets from 4.00pm on 30 December, with all restrictions lifted by 10.30pm. Further information can be found on the City of Edinburgh council website.

Please adhere to local parking restriction signage in the vicinity of the Royal Mile by ensuring that your vehicle is not parked illegally as all offending vehicles will be removed and may be subject to a parking fine and impound charges.

The installation of barriers, to ensure public safety, will begin on 29 December and will be removed following the event on the evening of 30 December. Whilst the entirety of the route will be barriered, pedestrian access will be maintained to all properties and businesses, with staffed crossing points located at regular intervals along the route to help maintain day-to-day activity whilst the Procession is underway.

We would ask that businesses, where possible, arrange for tables, chairs and freestanding signage to be taken indoors, with trade waste collected prior to the event road closures and that no rubbish is left kerbside during the event. Traders are asked to ensure all deliveries are completed prior to the introduction of the relevant restrictions.

The finale site in Holyrood Park will also be set up from 28 December, and every effort will be made to minimise any inconvenience with noisier operations being carried out earlier in the evening. We will adhere to guidance from the council’s Environmental Health Department, but apologise in advance for any disruption that may be caused.

STREET PARTY ROAD CLOSURES

Residents and businesses outside of the Street Party Arena

Edinburgh’s Hogmanay will involve a number of road closures and parking restrictions in the city centre to facilitate the events taking place, which unfortunately can bring some disruption, particularly to movement of traffic, parking and loading. A number of roads will be subject to closures and parking restrictions to ensure that on-street events can take place in safety. Some restrictions to parking will also be required to ensure diversion routes in the city are kept clear.

In the lead up to the events, look out for advance warning signs in place on major access routes to the city centre that provide closure details. The information on road closures and parking restrictions is correct at the time of going to print, however minor alterations may be necessary if circumstances change.  Any amendments will be advertised by way of street notices.

All deliveries to properties within the event arena must be made before the road closure timings which commence progressively from 28 December.

King’s Stables Road will have restrictions from 14 December to facilitate loading and unloading into Princes Street Gardens, with further restrictions progressively introduced within the city centre area from 29 December. The main closure of Princes Street and the side streets will be introduced from 6.00pm on 30 December. This will allow essential building and other works to take place and subsequently will ensure the safety and enjoyment of the public attending Edinburgh’s Hogmanay Street Party and associated events. Please refer to map below.

Please adhere to local parking restriction signage in the vicinity of Princes Street by ensuring that your vehicle is not parked illegally as all offending vehicles will be removed and may be subject to a parking fine and impound charges. Traders are asked to ensure all deliveries are completed prior to the introduction of the relevant restrictions.

FREE TRAM SERVICES

Edinburgh Trams will be providing free tram services throughout the night after the Street Party to help you home after the bells. Free late night trams will run from midnight on 31 December to 5am 1st January. The service will run every 20 min between west end at Shandwick Place and Edinburgh Airport.

Residents and Business inside of the Street Party arena

Build activity along the southside of Princes Street will commence on 17th December 2018, with the main installation of barriers and gates - to ensure public safety - beginning on 28th December 2018. The latter will be removed no later than the 2nd January 2019, with the structures along Princes Street clear by 5th January 2019.  It is only during Edinburgh’s Hogmanay Street Party that pedestrian access is restricted, which will begin at 6.30pm on 31st December until after the event.

Every effort will be made to minimise any inconvenience with noisier operations being carried out earlier in the evening. There is, however, a necessity to work through the night in some locations, in particular Castle Street, Princes Street and Waverley Bridge on the night of 30 December for the build and in the early hours of 1 January for the take down. We will adhere to guidance from the council’s Environmental Health Department, but apologise in advance for any disruption this may cause.

This year’s footprint extends from South Charlotte Street at the west end of Princes Street to West Register Street at the east end of Princes Street. On the north side the arena will extend to George Street at Castle Street, and Rose Street at Frederick, Hanover, South St David and South St Andrew Streets. On the south side the arena stretches up the Mound to the junction of Bank Street and George IV Bridge, and includes Mound Place, Market Street and Waverley Bridge and South St David Street.

If your business is a licensed premise and falls within the Street Party arena you are reminded that you will still be operating under your own Premises Licence and should adhere to your agreed licence conditions at all times. Please note there is no glass allowed within the arena and Police Scotland licensing officers will be on patrol throughout the event. Businesses who supply alcohol to be consumed off the premises will be contacted by Police Scotland Licensing section directly.

We would ask that businesses, where possible, arrange for tables, chairs and freestanding signage to be taken indoors, with trade waste collected prior to the event road closures and that no rubbish is left kerbside during the event.
