What Makes Young People Proud to Live in Scotland? We need your help to find out!
Every year on 30 December, as part of Edinburgh’s Hogmanay, thousands of people take part in a Torchlight Procession through the streets of Edinburgh.
This year’s procession will herald the start of Scotland’s Year of Young People 2018, and will end with hundreds of torches spelling out one word – the #ScotWord - a word which Scotland’s young people want to tell the rest of the world about what makes them proud to live in Scotland.
Underbelly, who are producing Edinburgh’s Hogmanay, are looking for volunteers aged between 16 and 26, to help us find out what Scotland means to our young people, and to encourage young people around Scotland to submit the word they feel represents their country to the #ScotWord website.
We are looking for volunteers who have good contacts with youth groups and schools in their local areas, and who will be able to organise and lead five discussion workshops before the end of November - encouraging young people to talk about what makes them proud to live in Scotland, and what they would like to say about Scotland to the rest of the world, and encouraging young people in their local area to upload their choice of word to our website.
This is a great opportunity to encourage representation of young people in your local area, and to develop valuable leadership and communication skills for your CV.
Volunteers will need to be able to attend a full day’s training in Glasgow or Edinburgh (on a date TBC in September), where you will learn about the exercises you can use in your workshops.
At the end of November, we will be bringing our group of volunteers together for a final meeting to discuss the results of the project.
Volunteers will also be invited to take part in the Torchlight Procession on 30 December in Edinburgh.
Expenses will be paid for travel to the training sessions, to travel to workshops in your area, and to attend the Torchlight Procession.
We already have some excellent representation across most areas, but we are still looking for young people to represent the following local authorities:
Argyll and Bute
